Bringing Legal Aid Closer to Tanzanians

Under the theme “Bringing Legal Aid Closer to Tanzanians,” the Wakili Marathon 2026 is a strategic initiative by the Tanzania Public Bar Association (TPBA) to expand access to justice through innovative, technology-driven solutions. In doing so, TPBA recognizes and commends the valuable efforts of the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs and the Office of the Attorney General in advancing legal aid services in the country. Building on these efforts, TPBA aims to improve access to justice by launching a digital legal aid platform that allows Tanzanians to access legal aid services anytime, anywhere, eliminating the need for in-person visits.

The initiative emphasizes inclusivity, especially supporting vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, the elderly, and the sick, who may find it difficult to access traditional legal aid services. To make a meaningful impact, 80% of the funds raised through the Wakili Marathon 2026 will be allocated to strengthening and expanding TPBA’s legal aid services through digital transformation, including platform development, capacity building, and public awareness campaigns. This approach aims to establish a more accessible, efficient, and client-focused legal aid system across Tanzania.
